ABOUT HEART & SOUL SCHOOL OF MUSIC

We know that the heart and soul of Austin, the “Live Music Capital of the World” are the many talented musicians that keep this city alive. That’s why we understand how important it is to connect these great musicians with opportunities to pass their gifts on to others. We hand pick our educators from that deep pool of talent. All are background checked, extremely well-rounded and experienced yet super fun musicians who all believe in teaching the “Heart & Soul” way.

Meet the Director of Heart & Soul

Jamie Bahr

Director & Music Educator

Jamie Bahr was a classically trained opera singer for 15 years before receiving degrees in Music Business and Jazz Vocal Performance from the State University of New York at New Paltz and Ulster.  Fronting the band, Punk Blues Review, she recorded the critically-acclaimed album “Death or Glory” (Altercation Records, 2008).  On tour from New York for SXSW 2009, she fell in love with the city of Austin to which she relocated later that Spring. With an upright bass in tow, she formed Danger*Cakes, the all-female Rock and Roll band, which has gained international notoriety .

Jamie quickly found her niche not only as a performer, but as an educator in the Austin community.  She is the senior educator for Kids In a New Groove (a c-503 non-profit organization that provides music lessons to children in foster care or who have been recently adopted) as well as an instrument instructor and band coach for Girls Rock Camp Austin (a non-profit dedicated to empowering girls and women of all backgrounds and abilities through musical education and performance).  Jamie founded the Heart & Soul School of Music in 2013.
